In my class we start everyday with morning meeting. This is where the class sits in a circle and discusses good things and greets each other. Currently, my students are sitting on throw rugs or hard/cold tile. It's really hard to be comfortable and feel ready to talk and listen that way. My students are majority English language learners. A carpet would give each student a place to feel comfortable and be willing to learn daily language. Most of my students come to school very shy and timid. I have seen morning meeting help these students become confident. A carpet would help my students open up even more.
