My students are largely from military families. Their moms and dads are serving our country. Many of my students currently have a parent who is deployed. Our families are very supportive of each other and our school. The boys and girls come to school with an energy and excitement for learning. They love to talk and eagerly participate in lessons. In our classroom we refer to ourselves as a Class Family. We care about one another, we solve problems as a team and support one another through listening and respectful communication. We recently added two guinea pigs to our Class Family, Lady Pie and Little Raspberry. The students enjoy observing them and reading in the chairs next to their cage. We have a wide range of readers in our room from beginning readers working to learn their letter sounds to those that are able to read chapter books. No matter their level, they all approach their reading work with a seriousness to be admired.
