Science should be a hands on classroom where students get to explore science by reading and completing experiments. It is hard to find appropriate materials to use when textbooks and text sets aren't available. The high interest nonfiction text set that I have requested, or begged and pleaded for, would be great to make science come alive. The students will be provided the opportunity to read a variety of text types on one subject. This not only offers them the opportunity to read about the topic but provides such a deep reading experience at the same time. I can only imagine the excitement as a students picks up the Solar System Science Viewer and gets to see real world pictures of space and gets to manipulate the viewer. I get excited just thinking about it! A space theme book library has also been requested. These books will be used as read alouds during this unit to model great reading and thinking strategies and to get the students excited about the learning process.
