As 1st graders, my students are still beginning their journey to unlock the codes of number and text. On this road, they are thoughtful and inquisitive...eager to establish their own place in a world of educated and powerful young people and adults. This year is crucial towards developing not only my students' abilities to read, write, and mathematize the world around them, but also in maintaining and/or developing their mindsets that they are capable of doing this work. One way I can help them do this is by ensuring that they can access varied genres, levels, and mediums of text, language, and number - individualized to promote success and a continued drive to learn. 1st graders have big ideas about the world, but are still developing the skills they need to grapple with and communicate their ideas. This is where technology can play a supporting role, keeping students interested and successful in their journeys as readers, writers and mathematicians.
