My students are the best. They come to school every day and attempt to leave their personal lives at the doors. But, its hard sometimes to be a good student when the world around you is chaotic. I teacher in an urban district in Missouri. My students are all recipients of "free lunches," all live in mid/low to low socioeconomic households, and most struggle to with every day life (jail, drugs, crime, hunger, homelessness, etc.). Our school is one of the smaller schools in the district which allows us to provide more a safe, comfortable environment. But, we still need help. With funds decreasing yearly, we as a staff struggle to make our school better....make it our students home-away-from-home.
