My students are 5th grade students with a variety of learning abilities and interests. Many of them struggle with reading in general let alone reading for understanding and comprehension. They have a desire to learn and often want to gain more knowledge in our class. We are a Title One school with more than 90% of the student population on free and reduce lunches, which means many students come from homes that cannot afford to pay for school lunches. As a result of the lack of funds from home we are sometimes limited in our resources.
