My school has a very diverse population. 60% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. For many of our students English is not their first language, nor is it the language that is spoken in their homes. Regardless of any economic or language challenges, we have students who come to school eager to learn and love to read. My 5th grade class is full of energy and excited to learn. They love to ask questions, and they are always thrilled to try new things. Reading is a focus in class, and one of my students' favorite parts of the day is when I read to them. They can't wait to hear the stories and characters come to life. They love making personal connections to the books I read, and they get excited when their predictions come true. I love to see their enthusiasm for new books.
