I teach Pre-K students who range from ages 3 to 5. They spend most of their time during the day playing in centers pretending and using their imagination with a variety of toys. Most of these students attend my classroom thanks to the state funding their educational experience. The state approves these student's applications that are submitted based on income. Therefore, the majority of my class comes from lower socioeconomic families. They come from many types of families ranging from Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, to African American. I have some students who are being brought up by their grandparent since their parents are no longer a part of their lives. Many of my students come from single parent homes. Therefore, asking our parents for more than just the basic school supplies would be asking too much. Our Pre-K is part of an elementary school that go to grade 5. Sixty or more percent of the students that attend our school are on free or reduced lunch.
