The library is a place for learning, reading, researching, and creating. Teachers often bring students to the library just to offer a different place for students to spread out, connect, read, and learn. I have chosen two high quality, comfortable chairs for students because we have never been able to provide any comfortable seating for them to enjoy. Our library is the heart of our school. Unfortunately, our tables and chairs offer only one seating option to students. Many of these wooden chairs are broken or in need of repair. Educational research shows that flexible seating options greatly enhance students' productivity and creativity. Our goal is to add additional learning spaces in the library for students by creating a flexible, inviting, seating atmosphere where students have areas in which to complete different tasks. These chairs will help provide a comfortable place for a small group or an individual to focus on a project, conduct research, or read without distraction. We want our students to feel welcomed in the library. Providing comfortable, high-quality, flexible seating options communicates to them that we are excited to see them visit the library, and we are anxious to see what they can accomplish when they visit. When students feel safe, encouraged, and valued, they feel more motivated and engaged with their school. It is the perfect storm for phenomenal learning!
