In today's world, we are constantly bombarded with information and disinformation. Research skills--to be able to read, discuss, question and consider multiple perspectives--are vital to our students' navigation of the world around them. In our classroom, we learn important research skills through research circles, giving students the opportunity to read shared nonfiction texts and participate in in-depth discussions about these texts with their peers. Research circles are focused on our yearlong social studies unit. This year, we are studying the history of social activism. We want to give students the opportunity to read engaging texts and discuss them with each other.
