I teach 20 second graders in North Carolina whose reading levels range from the beginning of first grade to students who are already reaching fourth grade reading levels. This range is vast. In order for all to increase their reading stamina and comprehension, I need to foster their love of reading by providing books which kids LOVE TO READ. I surveyed my class to see what they are interested in this year because kids are motivated by getting to choose their own books. We are currently learning how to pick 'just right books' for their book tubs and I noticed that once each kid picks 4-5 books, my library is wiped out. I need many more choices to keep them 'glued' to reading as they prepare to increase their reading stamina to off the chart levels this year!
