MY STUDENTS WANT TO FIND THE PERFECT BOOK! I am a 7th grade literacy teacher. Most of our students live in either government funded housing or shelters. Drugs and gangs are a reality for our students. Most of our parents do not allow their children to wander the streets after school, this includes going to the public library. Our nearest public library is about 8 blocks away (which includes crossing an expressway). The 8 blocks from the school to the library is crawling with gangs, drug dealers and shootings. It is very rare that a parent will agree to allow their child to walk to the public library alone. Therefore, it has become a priority for me to provide as many materials as possible for my students.
