As a first grade teacher, it is my responsibility to constantly expose the children in my class to quality literature of all genres. This is important in order to develop critical higher level thinking skills and comprehension as well as a love of reading! I want my my Firsties to catch my excitement and love of reading as I introduce and read new literature! A student's academic progress is profoundly shaped by the ability to understand what is read. Students who cannot understand what they read are not likely to acquire the skills necessary to participate in the 21st century workforce.(Butler et al.) I need a document camera in order to be able to clearly share with my students the text that I am reading during distance learning. My students will be able to follow along and easily reference the text during comprehension conversations. This camera will allow me to bring stories to life for my little Firsties as they will be able to see the illustrations clearly and close up as they listen to my voice reading the story.
