This middle school campus is a diverse population of 700 students ranging in ages of 11-15. This Title 1 school is a part of a federally funded program that receives free breakfast and lunch for each student. Two years ago, our team of students embarked on a mission to educate our community about healthier food options. During our initial research and surveying, we discovered that our school borders a Food Desert and 50% of our population resides within the food desert. Through various surveys we also discovered that 36% of our students feel that they receive all of their fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day. This survey also revealed that 43% of students, faculty and parents feel that they are obese and could benefit from the consumption of fresh vegetables/fruits grown in our garden.
