Micropipettes allow our students to practice college biotech skills at the high school level. Throughout the year, we examine DNA at a crime scene using gel electrophoresis, students use restriction enzymes to analyze DNA, students analyze antibody concentrations through ELISAs, and examine genes that cause and prevent cancer. These labs require the use of micropipettes. We have a handful of pipettes in our class: however, with classes over twenty-five students, these labs would be more efficient if we had pipettes for each group. The pipette tips and gloves are necessary when completing these labs.
