My students need more books to read on their own at home. I teach in a high-poverty, urban school that is struggling to meet the academic needs of the incredible, twelfth grade students it serves. Many of my seniors are currently applying to college, and as their English teacher, I am trying to prepare them for the collegiate classrooms they will be entering in the future. Whether they are attending a trade school, a community college, or a traditional university, I know that they will be asked by their professors to read and study on their own. However, they have not had the opportunity to take home books over the last three years because our school cannot afford enough textbooks or novels for everyone.
