I teach Math to fourth graders at a Title I elementary school in Louisiana. My students love to learn and respond best in small cooperative groups with the use of manipulatives. Unfortunately, for several of my students, the limited income of their parents keeps them from having many of the experiences other children have. Many of these experiences have proved to be essential in making connections to text and in developing basic problem solving skills. Therefore, I am constantly trying to incorporate as many real-world connections into my lessons to counter this unfortunate occurrence.
