Throughout the day, I work with small groups of students to help strengthen their reading and writing skills. My lessons are fast paced and hands on so students stay engaged in the practice activities that they need. We spend a lot of our time together reading. Students will use the whisper phones to get the auditory feedback they need as they figure out words. After reading, students reflect about what they read and write down some of their ideas. The Post it tape ("oops tape") helps students quickly correct mistakes and lets me focus my teaching on specific word elements as they write. Finally, students learn about how words work by working with magnetic letters to build and break apart words. The games will help students hear and manipulate the sounds in words. We use the white boards to try out new concepts about words.
