I teach students with special needs of different types. Some of my students are SLD, others are deaf, while some suffer from autism. All of them struggle in reading in some way or another and are thriving to be the best that they can be. We are located in a lower middle class section of town, with parents who make time for their children. My students reading ability interferes with their success in other content areas. As the reading skills get harder, and my students fall further behind their on-level peers, it not only affects them in reading, but writing, math, science, and social studies.
