Hatching eggs has always been a very popular and exciting subject in grade 1. Two years ago I had been moved from kindergarten to grade one to reduce the class size. During the chick unit, I had a few older incubators that I used to create one semi functioning one. Last years hatch was not ideal, having approximately 5 babies out of 20. This year I stocked up with 50 eggs determined to get more than 5. None of them hatched!!! I had a very hard time regulating the tempature and my egg turner didn't work so I had to turn by hand. Thankfully for amazing colleagues, my students were able to watch a chick hatch from an egg and observe that chick for a week and a half. I was just devastated and felt I some how failed my students. I decided right then and there that we were going to get it right!!
