My students typically do not learn well in a traditional setting. Many have experienced some sort of trauma or difficulty in their lives that has made it very hard for them to learn in the classroom. They need the added support of therapeutic services in the school in order to be successful. Students utilize technology as a means of coping with frustrations they sometimes encounter in the school setting. For example, if a student finds an assignment to be a daunting task they may break the assignment in half. They are required to complete half of the assignment. After the first half is corrected they are allotted a certain amount of time to use the ipad before they must complete the second half. Many of my students will listen to a favorite song that calms them or stabilizes their mood or play a game that will help them to forget the reason they were frustrated. I also have some students that would use that time to create an online journal or blog.
