Our school supply lists contain the bare minimum of what is needed for the classroom. I want to be able to give my students the opportunity to use supplies that go beyond the 24 box of crayons that are supposed to last throughout the year. I am trying to make a better home/school connection with my parents. I want to make take home literacy bags for my students. These book bags will allow the students to read with a parent/guardian, and do small literature or art activities to go along with the book. I have asked for Buddy book bags for home/school travels. Inside each book bag I will provide a book from our classroom library. The book bags will also contain Crayola crayons and markers to complete the writing/art activity after the book is read. For easy storage, the students will keep the book buddy bag in the seat sacks I have asked for. These can also be used for storing books the students are reading in class, rather than keeping them on the desk or inside where they could get torn. I am hoping with these donations, my students will show growth in their oral reading and comprehension. I hope parents, guardians, siblings, relatives will be able to find time to listen to the students and build a relationship and love for reading with the child. I want the activities to be simple and fun. The markers and crayons will help provide that.
