Our kids are reading books, writing stories, and adding and subtracting like you would not believe! Most of our learning occurs on the floor, and it would be so nice to have a wonderful rug to keep their bottoms warm in the winter and their minds focused on learning. Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and many of them receive free lunch. Some have had preschool experiences, but others have not. However, at this age, they are all so eager to learn. They want to be at school. They challenge themselves and want to please teachers and parents and each other. We build a sense of community in the classroom and they know it is a safe place where they are cared for and respected. Kindergarten at my school is an essential step in the education process where we harness their enthusiasm and sow the seeds for future growth and development.
