I am honored to teach 11th and 12th grade Humanities as well as a Service Learning Advisory at a unique charter school located near the California/Mexico Border. . Nearly all of our student population qualifies in extreme risk categories – beyond social economic factors and free and reduced lunch (many of our students are wards of the court, run-a-ways, and mothers and fathers). It is our primary goal to offer a safe and rigorous educational realm for students who are often undeserved in the school system. Within my classroom I hope to offer my students an opportunity to change their lives by taking advantage of their literacy abilities; through reading college level texts and writing on a daily basis, I hope to not only open windows of opportunities to my students, but to enable them to take control of their future and their intellect.
