Each house will consist of members of the leadership team, office staff, teachers, support staff, and students. The houses will provide encouragement of involvement, healthy competition, and a culture of belonging. “Students and teachers at schools where the House System has been put in place have raved about the impact it has had on the educational experience. Children have noted such things as how it has helped them to form friendships and create closer bonds with their peers. Teachers have noted how students perform at higher levels when points are assigned and their peers are cheering them on.” (RCA Guidelines for House Systems). There will be a point/reward system for representing character traits, growth, and our “ALL IN” expectations for students to earn towards their house gear such as lanyards, shirts, and yard signs. We will use Class Dojo to keep track of each student (and staff) points. Each student will be sorted using the custom sorting wheel and given a bracelet with their house colors. Once students are sorted into their house, they will start earning individual house points. Every 9 weeks weeks will end with a house assembly where students who have earned their incentives will be recognized, highest point earners per house will receive a yard sign, and the house with the highest points will reign as until the following house assembly. Through the year House Families will meet to calibrate on projects, create chants for their house, and make decisions on how to help our school.
