I teach wonderful 5 and 6 year olds at a Title One K-6 elementary school in the southwest. My students have supportive families that want the best for their children. The parents attend conferences and send in requested supplies when they can. When I share teaching techniques, the families are excited to try them with their children. Some students have parents that work numerous jobs or jobs with odd and/or long hours. When my students have time with their families, I want that precious time to be fun, positive and educational. My students are very excited to learn. At the kindergarten grade level, child must learn by doing. They must have experiences to build on and to create their own understanding. I love when I get the chance to observe them in small group centers as they learn by doing and then explain or teach it to their classmates.
