I teach in a first grade classroom full of avid readers, brilliant mathematicians and curious scientists. Many of my students are reading well above grade level and all are eager to learn and explore. They are all different: some like princesses, some prefer Angry Birds, while others would rather read than play at recess! My school is 100% free lunch and many of my amazing students come from difficult home situations where they face many challenges. At the age of six, many have experienced gunshot violence or have known hunger . School is a safe place for my students. With all that is going on in their lives, the classroom is nurturing and full of opportunity and excitement. Each day students can explore their potential through discovery and each day students gain confidence in their abilities.
