These materials will provide a classroom environment that includes engaging phonics lessons. Dry erase markers give students a fun way to practice spelling. Lamination and cutting boards enable teachers to create games and activities that appeal to students and extend and deepen their learning (e.g., word cards that can be used for everything from timed reading to word sorts). The numbered charts can turn any reading or spelling task into a game (e.g., pick a number and read or spell the word hiding in that box). Magnetic tape is a classroom staple in intervention -- we use it to move letter cards to build words quickly. This enables students to connect the sounds they hear in comments to the letter(s) that make each sound. Finally, the incentive charts help students track their progress. Each week students take a short 1-minute timed reading test. We use these charts to track students' growth to see their progress and become even more invested in the work they're doing in intervention.
