Our Math Center is a place where the students visit and have choices of what they would like to play with and share with a friend. Every math box provides and opportunity to explore many math concepts with some items provided. Guidance is always needed but the independence grows with every day as the students learn to count higher or understand the scale to weight and make comparisons. My students are given about an hour of the day to spend exploring such boxes. Students love counting and sorting when they find a box full of dinosaurs or apples which are topics that we read and discuss about in our curriculum. Bean bags with numbers and letters makes it easy to apply movement and learning indoors or outdoors. My students enjoy every lesson when they are allowed the choices and opportunities to take some academic knowledge such as counting and sorting and putting that into action with play.
