My students are in 3rd grade. They live in a high-poverty area and attend a K-6 elementary school. Almost 90% of students in our district receive free or reduced priced lunch and many families are not able to fill their home bookshelves with high-quality reading material. A well-stocked classroom library would go a long way towards providing my students with opportunities to read. English is often not their first, and sometimes not their second language, so many of them need great books to help them master English even faster. As a new teacher, I do not currently have classroom library resources available. The text provided by the curriculum is not enough; my students need a variety of materials to help them succeed!
