My students are children with autism and down syndrome. Many have been in the same classroom with the same books for four years, reading the same titles. They need a variety of genres to spark their interest. A new set of books would spark their interest in reading. They love to read about nature and animals. Having books they can bring home will allow them to practice reading and increase their fluency and decoding skills. The new books would also allow families to spend time together and enjoy fiction and nonfiction stories. Many students have younger siblings who would also enjoy being read to.
