At Holmes we teachers say "There's no place like Holmes." The school has a unique set of challenges as it is right across from a notorious Miami project and pulls most of its students from there. Negativity is so often the norm there, which trickles down to the students. The kids, though, are so eager to please and feel that they are different than the labels affixed to them. They need the classroom to be not just a place of academic growth, but of character development. The school is overcrowded, and teachers wear many different hats but the overpowering theme is a desire to change students' lives and fill them with the promise and potential that we see in them each day.
