Hauke is a public Academic Alternative High School for at risk students. All of our students apply to come to Hauke because they are not succeeding in a normal high school setting and are at risk of dropping out of high school. Through mentoring, smaller class size, and individualized instruction and remediation the teachers at Hauke help our students experience the power that comes from academic success; a success that many of them have never experienced. I teach Algebra 1 and Geometry. I individualize instruction for each student so that they learn the current course content while remediating to fill in gaps in prior knowledge. I do lots of hands on activities, as well as use multiple forms of technology, to help students visualize the math concepts.
