My students had 30 pairs of dull scissors to use and two pairs of shears to share this last year. Christmas stockings, quilt blocks, tote bags, and pj pants were typically cut uneven during the frustration of using scissors instead of shears. The shears joined our supplies towards the end of the school year despite being needed months earlier! Some of my students are unable to machine or hand stitch and plastic needles and canvas are a suitable alternative as those students are still able to create art.
