R.W. Blake Academy serves approximately 750 students in grades PreK through eighth grade. Its students come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Some come from homes where they speak little to no English. One hundred percent of the children receive free lunch. This is my first year at Blake Academy where I transfered from another Title One school. My classroom is one of four where math and science is taught to second graders in the morning and 3rd graders in the afternoon. Although it is a beautiful and large classroom it is missing most of the manipulatives needed to teach math using a hands on approach.
