Students currently use a small, chair-desk in my science classroom for all lessons. Tables would open up possibilities for science lessons that develop investigations that require thinking, reasoning, and teamwork. Tables would be more conductive to creating, experimenting, engineering, and collaboration. Students in my classroom complain that the desks don't have enough work space and the space it does have is angled so that they must take their projects to the floor. Working space as well as comfort is an issue on the floor. When the desks are grouped together students can't easily get in and out which creates a safety concern.
