My students are boys and girls that have autism. They are able to attend the public school, but face the daily challenges of communication both expressive/receptive. They are a joy to work with each day, as they master skills that seem so small to you and I, but are huge milestones for them. Being able to express themselves through technology based devices is becoming an easier path for them to be part of inclusion setting with peers within their school setting. Many of the academic requirements are also easier for them using technology vs. written output. Many face fine motor challenges, which limits their ability to produce written work. It is my hope to see less daily stress and frustration to produce academic assignments within the public school setting. With the support of assistive technology, these students will be able to have a chance to learn skills with less frustration and build their self-esteem for a job well done!
