Our feeder schools are some of the lowest performing schools in the district, therefore the majority of our students perform two or three grade levels below expectations. Most of our students come from single parent households and qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Our school is truly an anchor in our students' lives. Many times our students' basic needs such as nutrition and medical/dental care are not being met. Knowing my students come from challenging backgrounds, I want to provide them with lessons above and beyond the core curriculum. Without active student engagement through hands-on activities, lessons would be nothing more than numbers on a paper and rote memorization. With the implementation and integration of the Common Core Standards, I want to find fun and exciting ways for my students to be literate problem solvers for the 21st century. My goal is for every student to be college ready by becoming eligible for the A-G high school requirements and passing the CAHSEE.
