My students are in an 8th grade AVID Elective class in a California public middle school. They are the students "in the middle" who have the potential for increased academic and personal success with the skills and strategies that AVID provides. These 30 young men and young women are a hard-working bunch who challenge themselves to take advanced classes, encourage their classmates to make it through tough times, and share in celebrations of success. They appreciate the value of a BIG binder and inspire me every day. For the only-children, this class gives them brothers and sisters. For the kids from single-parent families, they've got more parent-like guidance and support. For kids with blended and extended families, we provide a space for them to shine. It's an AVID family for sure.

About my class
