With a 3-D printer, my students will be able to take creativity to a new level and experience technology beyond their imagination. My students have special needs and a 3-D printer will allow them an additional tool for understanding and visualizing elements of learning through a hands on approach. These students who struggle with communication at times and appropriate expression will utilize skills and strategies to strengthen communication, research and collaboration skills to complete multi-step activities and projects. Access to the 3-D printer will give these special need students the opportunity to enhance their use of technology; and expanding their reasoning and critical thinking skills. The students will work individually and in pairs to collect information and draw conclusions that will lead them to a final product using the 3-D printer. This on-going and growing opportunity can expand beyond the current year and become a multi-faceted tool for both learning and behavioral motivation.
