I teach bilingual students in the inner city who love to read and learn. My students come from very poor economic backgrounds but look forward to coming to school and learning. They love stories read to them and they love reading stories. Second graders are often able to read to themselves and are starting to develop into good readers. I tell my students the more you read the better you will become. If I am able to offer them a variety of reading materials both fiction and nonfiction they can choose for themselves at the level that is best for them. Books of high interest are wonderful,they encourage them to read more.
