Group counseling is an efficient and effective way to meet students’ academic, career, social/emotional developmental, and situational needs. Group counseling makes it possible for students to achieve healthier academic and personal growth in a rapidly changing global society. Group counseling has a positive effect on academic achievement and personal growth. These small groups in grief, social skills, self-esteem and attendance will help them overcome life challenges and learn new behaviors to cope with life challenges. Students are able to build relationships, rapport with others, enhance character and have a sense of belonging to a family and community with continued support. In grief group students create an clear ornament to represent their loved one and have a memory of them during the most difficult time of the year. In addition the balloons and ribbon are used to complete a balloon release at the end of the 8 weeks of grief group. In social skills group, sensory fidgets and stress balls are used to learn coping strategies in group and how to interact with others. The attendance matters group incentives of the lanyards and emoji erasers are to encourage the students to be at school each and everyday. The self-esteem group for girls teaches ways to build their self-confidence.
