A small group table enables me to provide students with immediate and specific feedback on their progress as they work. At the table, I provide brief and targeted lessons, gather real-time data on a student's proficiency, and provide individualized, responsive supports. Timely feedback is critical to help ensure my students have maximal opportunities for learning during our limited time together. Flexible seating during independent work time allows students to practice making thoughtful decisions about their learning and exercise autonomy. During independent work time, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work at different desks or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. I have noticed that flexible seating has empowered students to develop self- awareness that they apply to make responsible decisions. The products I have selected will address the needs my students have identified in our classroom. While many of them demonstrate more engagement and stamina when they work independently on the rug in our class library, several have reported that it becomes uncomfortable after extended periods of time. They suggested using beanbags to increase their comfort and increase the amount of time they can work productively at the rug. This additional seating will affirm my students' identities as capable problem-solvers who can analyze conditions and generate reasonable solutions.
