Last year I discovered a sample of a unique resource designed to help students learn and master phonics skills as "secret" stories. This resource presents "secret" stories to explain the behavior of letters when they get together. The stories can put the whole brain to work. The stories help establish conditions in the brain for remembering. I used some of the free samples last year for a short time when our in-person students returned. I found the few samples to make a huge difference in how effectively and fast my students learned those specific phonic skills and remembered them.
I witness firsthand with the sample pack how the Secret Stories accelerated phonic skill instruction in a meaningful, engaging manner for my students. The Secret Stories helped many of my struggling readers to master phonic skills in ways I have never witnessed before. The stories are fun and engaging but bring a deeper understanding to the students of how the letters work together. I have taught for over a decade and have never heard of such interesting and effective methods to explain the letter behavior to students. I can only imagine how having all the secret stories for all the letters would help my students. The secret stories resource kit is designed to target phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. It offers explicit decoding instruction so that students can master phonic skills.
