I work with 9th grade students in a poor and historically underperforming school district. My school is designed to re-integrate students into main-stream classes for high school. My students have social and emotional disabilities that have hindered them from learning at the pace of their peers. These students have trouble trusting their teachers and peers and have not had a lot of experience being in a classroom setting as they were often secluded from their peers due to bad behavior. These students read at lower levels than their peers, but are working really hard to catch up.
