There are many student challenges with the population that I work with. Most of the students are on free/reduced lunch program at our school and they all speak another language at home with the majority of them speaking Spanish. These students are very ambitious and are eager to learn in order to better themselves for the future. However, many of them are at a disadvantage. They don’t have access to technology within their homes, etc. The only technological materials that many of these students have ever used in their home setting include items such as a computer, cell phone, and gaming stations, etc. I would like to broaden their horizons in that regard and show them that learning can happen and be fun with their own hand held reading device.
