We are a poverty school in the second poorest region of the country located in Mississippi. Despite this fact, I believe that I have some of the most caring students in the nation. These kids' hearts would amaze you. They care about other people, and they take care and look out for each other. The majority of my students are very hungry for knowledge, and they truly do want to learn. These kids desire a life beyond what they have now. They dream of growing up to become someone special and important. They want to make a difference in people's lives. However, an issue that we are currently seeing is that this region's students are not excelling in some parts of college because of their low reading levels. It is a miracle just to get these students to college, but it is heartbreaking to see them struggle so dramatically when they do get there. These kids want to learn- but most of the time they are not given the necessary tools in order to achieve that goal. We need help.
