My project request is for picture cue activity mats; adjustable foam balance beams and various active play materials such as jump ropes, bean bags, and bouncy balls. Through the use of these physically engaging materials, my students will develop their balance, coordination and physical endurance. Many students entering the program have developmental delays, so the activities and lessons designed around these materials will help increase and improve their gross motor development in a fun, kid-friendly way. Not only will this allow them to meet their physical development standards, but it will also help build their confidence and will encourage a desire for future physical activity and fitness. Research also shows that there is a tremendous need for young learners to take frequent "brain breaks" to allow for more academic engagement and retention throughout the day.
