This past school year I dipped my toe into the pool of flexible seating. I purchased a wiggle seat, a lap desk and a class set of clipboards and our adventure began. While we still had our conventional seating I encouraged my students to choose a work place that worked for them. Many days you could come into our room and find students tucked into a corner with the lap desk, laying on the floor with a clipboard, sitting on the wiggle seat or even standing at a table. What a joy it was to see so many students engaged in their learning! Unfortunately, I did not have enough non-conventional seating to meet the needs of my most energetic students. The addition of wobble seats, more wiggle seats and stability balls will give us more options to choose from. No one will be left out! When my new students arrive in the fall they will be full of energy. Many times this energy interferes with their learning. I would like to turn their energy into a positive. What better way than to provide them with the opportunity to wiggle and squirm while they grow their brains!
