My students have always enjoyed gathering on the rug and listening to fun and engaging books, especially if they can make a personal connection! As the year goes on, students need guidance as to getting along with others, using appropriate words with one another or overcoming obstacles. Using a variety of books geared toward these skills, will provide me the opportunity to continue to engage my students through rich and meaningful discussions. My students will learn social skills such as understanding their feelings, controlling their emotions and how to problem solve, among others. Through these read alouds, students will not only learn appropriate social skills but they will also increase their language and vocabulary skills. I am confident that my students will enjoy listening and reading these books but most importantly, they will greatly benefit in both learning the language and promoting important life skills.
